“It’s not fair” – Joan Collins calls for restructuring at Strictly | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Dame Joan Collins has slammed Strictly Come Dancing bosses and called on them to rethink their procedures for selecting celebrities for their programme each year.

The former Dynasty star had a lot to say about the glamorous BBC One show and didn’t hold back with her thoughts: “It’s not fair,” she demanded as she took part in the Loose Women panel on Monday (September 23).

Although the cult actress never competed for the Glitterball trophy, she has admitted on several occasions that she is a huge fan of the series. Naturally, presenter Ruth Langsford wanted to know the author’s opinion after the series launched.

There’s been quite a bit of talk about Love Island star Tasha Ghouri, who topped the leaderboard after the show aired over the weekend, impressing the judges with her stunning rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso.

However, since the reality star has been a professional dancer her entire life, there is currently debate about whether it is fair for dancers with similar experience to compete against other celebrities who have never danced to the beat.

Interviewing Joan and knowing that she is a huge Strictly fan, Ruth wanted to ask Joan about the very debate that is on fans’ minds: Should dancers be lumped in with absolute beginners?

The former This Morning presenter questioned the TV legend, saying: “There are other people who say, ‘That’s not fair to the amateurs’. You know people who have never stepped on a dancefloor. You watch the show, I know you’re a fan.”

“Yes, I do,” the icon replied as Ruth continued with her question. She asked, “So, what do you think?” Without a moment’s hesitation, Joan commented, “I don’t think people with dance experience should be involved. I think it’s much more fun to watch people who are complete amateurs, like the blind guy, he’s incredible.”

She continued: “It’s not that I’m putting them down, everyone has to do their own thing, but that’s not fair to the other contestants.” Joan backed up her own statement and proudly added: “I have dance experience. I went to dance school when I was three, so I’m probably pretty good.”

Ruth joked: “There will be someone on Strictly now [she pretended to jot down on a notebook] ‘Dame Joan Collins'”, while the jury and the audience shook with laughter, believing that the actress would now be on the target list for 2025.

“Loose Women” airs weekdays from 12:30pm on ITV1.
