Tour this Florida home dedicated to light, art and views

This new Florida home in Boca Raton embodies the region’s Tropical Modern style – elegant, glamorous and filled with light. It is also adorned with art and sculptures and fitted with contemporary furnishings and custom finishes. The Boca Raton home was designed by Miami-based firm Choeff Levy Fischman, with interiors by Deborah Wecselman. It was designed for a client with a passion for distinctive contemporary art pieces and strong interior finishes, and was built to exacting standards by VJD Construction.

The single-story home is arranged in three pavilions around a central pool. Artwork of various sizes is scattered in carefully chosen locations so that it can be admired from inside and out. The centerpiece of the home is a 130-foot-long skylight that spans two-thirds of the floor plan, bringing light into the central spine of the home and giving it a gallery-like quality.

The entrance façade, which adjoins a garage for the owners’ collection of classic and contemporary sports cars, is treated somewhat differently. The rooms and interiors are designed as pods protruding from the wall. Beneath these structures is a shallow reflecting pool, which also houses two large-scale ceramic forms by Jun Kaneko.

Inside, the property includes a kitchen by German specialist Eggersmann, flanked by an installation wall of custom-tinted glass by Amsterdam studio Germans. While there are formal living rooms and alcoves dedicated to specific sculptures, paintings and views, the family room is a deliberately playful space, as are the bedrooms intended for the client’s grandchildren. This includes a room with walls that look like they were carved from Lego, with a raised loft-style bed, as well as wallpaper inspired by the late Keith Haring (a friend of the client).

The main living room looks out over the lake to the golf course beyond. An Apparatus chandelier hangs above a Tai Ping circular rug and Wittmann cedar-clad sofas. A deep purple Holly Hunt side chair adds a pop of color. Other artworks can be seen both inside and out, including the poolside lifeguard sculpture by Spanish artist Aurora Cañero.

“This home is an example of resort-style living with complete integration of the interior spaces through the use of large sliding doors,” says Ralph Choeff, principal at Choeff Levy Fischman. “The owners of the home specifically requested a single-story structure and we created a program that drove the design and location of the design elements. As always, the site itself plays an important role in inspiring the design.”

The project gained valuable experience by working with interior designer Deborah Wecselman—Wecselman had worked on two previous residences for the client. “They wanted a home where generations could come together and create lasting memories,” the designer explains. With its lush indoor and outdoor landscape filled with art and sculpture, as well as carefully selected furniture and furnishings, the Boca Raton home is both a private home and a gallery.
