Touchdown machine Barrow will lead the Monarchs to the final

Touchdown machine Barrow will lead the Monarchs to the final

Dresden- “We want to play here. These fans and this stadium are just great,” said Greg Seamon (69) after the confident 35:6 victory of the Dresden Monarchs in the play-off quarter-finals against Straubinger SpidersIt is not yet certain whether the Royals will actually be allowed to play at Heinz-Field again.

It took about 30 minutes for the good news to spread: Hildesheim had won in Schwäbisch Hall, and now the Lower Saxony team had to travel to Dresden for the semi-finals.

The Heinz Steyer Stadium will then probably finally mutate into a Monarchs party temple on Saturday.

The record so far in the new building: two games and two clear victories. On Saturday, the third, the Monarchs will move into the GFL Bowl in Essen.

Already in the main round, the Royal defeated Hildesheim 45:16 from the field. Running back Nico Barrow (22) contributed two touchdowns to the victory at the beginning of August.

On Saturday against Straubing there were already three again. Quarterback Brock Domann (26) and receiver Ricky Smalling (26) were the other two.

“He started the year in the hospital with a virus, then he had a shoulder injury. Now he’s back to his normal form, which makes him the best running back in the league. I’m just proud of him,” Seamon said.

But Barrow doesn’t want to make too much of his 15 running touchdowns this season – which make him the best running back in the GFL. His secret is “a great game plan, great teammates and a great O-line. They all help me so much that it’s easy.”

Optimal conditions for further touchdowns in the semi-finals – ideally in front of a sold-out crowd.

“I’ve never played in front of so many people as I have in the two years here. It’s just incredible, every time,” said Barrow.

The 22-year-old Finn will not worry about how many more touchdowns the Monarchs fans will be able to cheer: “I only have one goal: to win!”
