Bundesliga, 4th matchday – Sunday: Stuttgart defeats Borussia Dortmund

VfB Stuttgart – Borussia Dortmund 5:1 (2:0)

Borussia Dortmund suffered its first defeat in the sixth competitive match under new head coach Nuri Şahin. BVB lost in the Bundesliga at VfB Stuttgart with a clear 1:5 (0:2). This puts BVB in eighth place in the table, five points behind league leaders FC Bayern Munich. VfB moves up to seventh place with a better goal difference.

VfB Stuttgart took the lead in front of 60,000 spectators just four minutes after kick-off. National player Deniz Undav hit the inside post with his left foot and the ball bounced into the goal. Ermedin Demirovic extended the early lead (21st minute). At half-time the score was 2-0 for the hosts in Stuttgart.

In the second half, the Swabians managed to extend their lead. In the 62nd minute, Enzo Millot shot the ball into the goal with his left foot to make it 3-0. Serhou Guirassy scored the only goal for Dortmund in the 75th minute. Five minutes later, however, VfB showed their guests their limits: El Bilal Touré (80th) scored the goal to make it 4-1. In the first minute of stoppage time, Undav added another goal to make the final score 5-1.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen – VfL Wolfsburg 4:3 (2:3)

In the Bundesliga, Bayer 04 Leverkusen played against VfL Wolfsburg won 4:3 (2:3). Victor Bonifatius secured Leverkusen’s victory in the third minute of injury time. Bayer thus climbed to second place in the table, Wolfsburg remained in 13th place.

The first goal of the party comes after just five minutes – an own goal by Leverkusen. Nordi Mukiele tried to clear a shot from VfL player Tiago Tomás, but unfortunately put the ball into his own net. Florian Wirtz scored the equalizer for Bayer in the 14th minute. The club took the lead in the 32nd minute with a header from Jonathan Tah. Just five minutes later, Wolfsburg equalized: after a header from Sebastiaan Bornauw (37th minute), the score was 2:2. In stoppage time of the first half, Wolfsburg took the lead with a goal from Mattias Svanberg (45th+1).

However, this did not last long: In the 49th minute, Piero Hincapié equalized for the hosts. Wolfsburg’s Yannick Gerhardt was shown the red card in the 88th minute for a foul on Jeremie Frimpong. In the seven minutes of added time, Wolfsburg’s numerical disadvantage became apparent. Victor Bonifatius scored the winning goal (90th+3).
