Firearms seized after armed police arrest man in Weymouth

This morning there was a heavy police presence in the Boot Hill area of ​​Weymouth, blocking roads and driveways.

This enabled police to arrest a man who was wanted for numerous crimes, including firearms, theft and violence against a person.

Neighbourhood policing teams worked with officers from the firearms unit and the local incident command and the man was found hiding on a nearby property.

During the search of the property, three firearms and a large quantity of suspected stolen power tools were seized, in addition to other weapons.

The man remains in custody while police conduct their investigation.

A Weymouth & Portland Police spokesman said: “Residents in Weymouth, particularly in the Boot Hill area, may have noticed a heavy police presence this morning, coupled with the closure of roads and driveways.”

“Neighbourhood Policing officers from Weymouth and Portland, working with local emergency services and firearms units, attended an address in Weymouth this morning to conduct a real-time investigation into the arrest of a innocent suspect wanted in connection with numerous criminal offences.

“Following the arrest, a man was located hiding at a nearby property and arrested on multiple offenses including, but not limited to, weapons offenses, theft offenses, and offenses of violence against persons.

“During the search of the address, three firearms and a large quantity of suspected stolen power tools were seized, along with other weapons.

“One man is currently in custody pending investigation.
