iPhone 17 leaks: Major display upgrade announced

iPhone 17 leaks: Major display upgrade announced

With the iPhone 16 series now available in India, attention is already turning to next year’s iPhone 17 as early leaks suggest a major display upgrade. According to Ross Young, a reliable source for Apple display news, the iPhone 17 will come with ProMotion technology, which essentially means a 120Hz display. This feature was previously reserved for the Pro models and is now rumored to make its way to the standard models as well to offer a smoother scrolling and video playback experience, reports MacRumors.

This would be a major upgrade to the standard iPhone models, which currently operate at a 60Hz refresh rate. The display could also be turned down to a more power-efficient rate when not in use, similar to the always-on feature on the Pro models.

The addition of ProMotion could prompt users to wait to upgrade this year, as this display improvement was originally expected with the iPhone 16 series. With the iPhone 17 now expected to include this long-awaited feature, potential buyers could wait for the 2025 release instead.

Young has a solid track record and accurately predicted the iPhone 16 Pro’s larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays. While it’s unclear whether the iPhone 17 will have a low-end 10Hz or 1Hz refresh rate, the jump to ProMotion is enough to generate some excitement. Apple is expected to officially unveil the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025.

Next year, Apple is also expected to introduce a new model called the iPhone 17 Air. It is expected to be slimmer and also have a 120 Hz display. The device is expected to replace the Plus series. So, we may not see the iPhone 17 Plus model next year. The iPhone 16 Plus could be Apple’s last Plus model unless the company decides to change its decision based on the sales demand of the current version.
