Edo 2024: Why the governorship elections could be the worst in Nigeria’s history, explains PDP’s Ighodalo

Benin City, Edo State – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo, has said Saturday, September 21, elections could be the worst in Nigeria’s history.

Ighodalo said there were no fewer than 20 polling stations where the number of accredited voters was less than the total number of votes cast.

He stated this while speaking at the PDP election campaign briefing on Sunday, September 22.

“From our perspective, these elections, as they are going, will certainly be the worst elections in the history of this country.”

He claimed that it was an electoral fraud scheme to manipulate the numbers in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“There is definitely something wrong here. There is a formula being used to settle results and that is totally unacceptable. This process is not acceptable.”

Legit.ng Recalls that the PDP has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of INEC Chairman Obozuwa Josephine.

The PDP claims that Josephine allocated 352 votes to the APC, 52 to the PDP and one to the Labour Party (LP) at the Osholo Primary School polling station.

The PDP called for the prosecution of Josephine and the annulment of the election results of the Osholo Primary School Electoral Commission.

INEC reacts to alleged manipulation of figures

In the meantime, Legit.ng reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has responded to allegations of manipulated election results from polling stations in Edo State.

The Commission said it had received two complaints about incorrect numbers being entered and would investigate the matter.

INEC promised to investigate any proven violation during the governorship election on Saturday, September 21.
