VfL Osnabrück parts ways with coach Uwe Koschinat after a bad start

That’s happening quickly: After just six match days, VfL Osnabrück is parting ways with its coach. A successor has not yet been chosen.

Second division relegated team VfL Osnabrück has parted ways with coach Uwe Koschinat after a bad start to the new third division season. The coach was released after the 2:3 defeat at Waldhof Mannheim, the purple and white team announced on Sunday.

After six match days, Osnabrück have only won one game and are at the bottom of the table. Until a new coach is found, the two assistant coaches Tim Danneberg and Maniyel Nergiz will train the team. On Tuesday, VfL will face Energie Cottbus with former coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz.

“We have not been able to drive continuous development and consistency in recent weeks,” said VfL sports director Philipp Kaufmann. “Ultimately, we are no longer fully convinced that we can return to the path of success with the current personnel constellation with Uwe Koschinat as head coach.”

Koschinat took over VfL from Tobias Schweinsteiger in November last year, but was unable to prevent relegation from the second division. Nevertheless, those in charge saw Koschinat as the right coach for the rebuilding process. The completely new team was disappointed in the first games of the season.
