A freight train in Uttar Pradesh narrowly escaped disaster when the driver spotted a gas cylinder on the tracks near Prempur railway station at 5.50 am on Sunday (September 22), according to ANI. The train, which was on its way from Kanpur to Prayagraj, applied the emergency brake to bring it to a halt.

Railway officials, including the construction inspector and safety teams, quickly removed the bottle from the tracks for investigation. Later, it was found that the 5-litre bottle was empty. The North Central Railway press officer announced that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

“A goods train travelling from Kanpur to Prayagraj was stopped using emergency brake after the driver saw a gas cylinder lying on the tracks at Prempur railway station at 5.50 am today (September 22). Railway IOW (labour inspector), security and other teams examined the cylinder and removed it from the tracks. On examination, the 5-litre cylinder was found to be empty. Instructions have been given to investigate the case,” said CPRO, North Central Railway.

Later in the day, police also searched the area where an empty 5-litre gas bottle was discovered on the tracks.
