FCL coach Frick’s spying campaign seems to have had an effect. After a good start, FCSG lost control of the game and conceded three goals in the second half.

It is a bitter autumn evening here in the Kybunpark. And yet everything started so well. Albert Vallci heads St. Gallen into the lead in the 20th minute after a corner. And ten minutes later, Willem Geubbels only has to keep his foot out of a cross from Witzig. It is a celebration in the Kybunpark. Everyone except the Central Swiss are happy.

The score is 2-0 at halftime and it doesn’t look like FC St.Gallen will let anything go wrong. But things turn out differently. From the 56th minute onwards, things get uncomfortable.

VAR spoils the redemption

After Klidje’s goal, Lucerne caught fire and increased the pressure. They came very close to equalizing two or three times. St. Gallen were always lucky.

Until Frick takes out striker Villiger and brings on Spadanuda. The 27-year-old Swiss equalizes with his first touch of the ball. And eight minutes later, Dorn scores the lead for Lucerne.

Kevin Csoboth was brought down by FCL goalkeeper Loretz in the 90th minute; Toma had already sat on the ball to score a no-look penalty goal.

And then the VAR arrives from Volketswil five minutes late and spoils the St. Gallen party. Apparently Loretz’s foul was preceded by an offside position by a St. Gallen player. The verdict: no penalty. This pleases the Central Swiss and frustrates the St. Gallen fans.
