Singapore is not just about Formula 1. Together with his friend Esteban Ocon, Mick Schumacher tried out a trendy sport.

Singapore – Athletes, especially professionals, are usually highly competitive in other sports too. But that doesn’t seem to be the case with Mick Schumacher – at least when it comes to a trendy sport like padel. Together with Formula 1 buddy Esteban Ocon, he tried out the tennis offshoot on the sidelines of the Singapore Grand Prix. The main focus is obviously on having fun.

For Mick Schumacher it is a move from Formula 1 to the new trend sport

The fact that Mick Schumacher is present at the Singapore Grand Prix is nothing unusual. As a reserve driver for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, he is of course there and ready to step in if George Russell or Lewis Hamilton are unable to compete.

But in the times that are not reserved for test drives and race preparations, Mick Schumacher is by no means lazy. As an Instagram post by his friend Esteban Ocon (BWT Alpine F1 Team) reveals, he also likes to try out other sports. Like padel, a variation of tennis.

Tennis with walls probably not a permanent solution for Mick Schumacher

Although it is played on a court of a similar size to a tennis singles match, there are key differences to the trend sport. Padel is always played in doubles, the walls around the court are also included in the game and the rackets are different.

Even though Mick Schumacher clearly enjoys playing padel, he is unlikely to pursue a professional career in the sport, which is slowly gaining ground in Germany. Mick’s goal is still to return to Formula 1 as a regular driver. He is also very busy as a test pilot, reserve driver and active driver in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Mick Schumacher fights for Formula 1 future

The current situation does not mean that Mick will be able to return to being a regular driver. However, the road back is tough and characterized by great competition.

There are only two cockpits left to be filled for the next season and only the one at Audi is realistic for Schumacher – but other drivers are also aiming for that. At least: Additional motivation should be that he can then compete with his friend Ocon on the race track again. (sch)
