Vice President Kamala Harris accepts invitation to second debate with Donald Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted an invitation to a debate with former President Donald Trump on October 23. according to CNN.

The Democratic candidate posted to X on Saturday that “I will gladly accept a second presidential debate on October 23. I hope [Trump] will join me.”

The two presidential candidates faced each other for the first time in an ABC debate earlier this month – Harris’ first as the Democratic frontrunner after President Biden decided to drop out of the candidacy.

“Vice President Harris is ready for another opportunity to share the stage with Donald Trump,” campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement to CNN. “Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate.”

It is unclear whether Trump will accept CNN’s invitation after previously declaring that “there will be no third debate.”

“When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are: ‘I want revenge'” he posted on Truth Social after the September debate. “The polls clearly show that I won Tuesday night’s debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the radical left Democratic candidate, and she immediately called for a second debate.”

According to CNN, the format would be similar to the important debate between Biden and Trump that the network hosted in June – 90 minutes without a live audience.

“Both Vice President Harris and former President Trump received an invitation to participate in a CNN debate this fall because we believe the American people would benefit from a second debate between the two candidates for President of the United States,” CNN said in a statement. “We look forward to a response from both campaigns so that the American public can learn more from these candidates as they make their final decision.”
