PORTLAND, Oregon – A man has died in a house fire that broke out in southeast Portland early Monday morning, according to a Portland Fire & Rescue spokesman.

The fire broke out at 3:24 a.m. near Southeast Flavel Street and Southeast 76th. When Portland Fire & Rescue crews arrived, they saw large flames coming from the house. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.

During an initial search of the house, firefighters discovered a person. They attempted to resuscitate the person, but he died at the scene, Portland Fire & Rescue said in a post on X. A Portland Fire & Rescue spokesperson confirmed to KGW that a man had died.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. Southeast Flavel Street between 72nd and 76th streets has been closed to traffic since 6:30 a.m.
