KMC RI: KMC RI staff quarters in Hubballi: A call for urgent repairs | Hubballi News

Hubballi: The Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMC RI), a vital Healthcare providers in North Karnataka has failed to prioritise the welfare of its hard-working staff who work hard to maintain the hospital’s high standards and provide quality healthcare to the population.
The Staff accommodationlocated in Block No. 7 on the KMC RI premises, have been neglected for years. The buildings leak during the rainy season and trees grow on the sides of the walls.
The deteriorating condition of the accommodation is a major concern for the staff. They have to live in these substandard conditions while serving the community. The 24-unit building is in dire need of attention and maintenance, but the authorities have failed to address the problem, leaving the staff to bear the consequences of their negligence. By not prioritizing the improvement of staff accommodation, KMC RI Hospital risks undermining the morale and motivation of its staff. A comprehensive approach to improving the hospital’s infrastructure should include not only the medical facilities but also the living conditions of its valuable staff.
When asked, residents of the neighborhood, who wished to remain anonymous, said they were facing numerous problems and had reported them to the relevant authorities, but no action had been taken so far. “The building was built in 1960. In the last 15 to 20 years, the authorities have not even painted it or carried out any repairs.”
Residents also mentioned that a dense jungle has formed in front of the residential areas and several buildings leak when it rains. They added: “There is a plague of mosquitoes. People here live in fear of mosquito-borne diseases.” Recently, a snake was found on the premises of the residential area, which is why children no longer feel safe playing outside after school.
When contacted, KMC RI Director SF Kammar said, “We will issue instructions to the estate officials of KMC RI to relocate and evict the residents from the staff quarters in Block No. 7. The necessary process to construct new quarters for the staff will be initiated.” He mentioned that an application for demolition of the dilapidated building had already been submitted and was yet to be approved.
