Kolkata rape and murder case: CBI questions doctor close to former RG Kar chief Sandip Ghosh | Latest News from India

According to the CBI, Dr Birupaksha Biswas was examined at the hospital on August 9 – the day of the crime – although he had no official appointment there.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday began questioning another doctor allegedly close to Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, in connection with the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the institution on August 9.

Dr Birupaksha Biswas, who was recently transferred by the West Bengal government from Burdwan Medical College and Hospital to Kakdwip Hospital in South 24 Parganas district, appeared before the CBI officials at the agency’s CGO Complex office in the Salt Lake area of ​​the state capital Kolkata, PTI reported.

“He is being questioned about his presence at RG Kar Hospital on August 9 despite not having an appointment, apart from other questions,” a CBI official said.

“Biswas is part of a so-called north Bengal lobby that is active in the state’s medical colleges,” the official added.

According to medical experts, the “North Bengal Lobby” is a group of doctors and officials of government medical institutions who “threatened students”.

Biswas and two other doctors – Avik De and Ranjit Sahah – were named in an FIR for “threatening students at various medical colleges and hospitals in West Bengal”.

They were charged under Section 351 (assault as a gesture or preparation to make another believe that he is about to be subjected to criminal violence) of the new Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita penal code.

Ghosh, who was removed from his post at RG Kar and later suspendedis being investigated by the CBI for his role in alleged financial irregularities at the institute, and also for delaying the FIR in the rape and murder case by “at least 14 hours”.

He is suspected of being part of a ‘Conspiracy’ hatched to destroy evidence in the case.
