8-year-old drives to Target in her mom’s SUV: Watch the dashcam video

The girl, whose identity is unknown, was enjoying a Frappuccino when she was spotted by Bedford police at a Target store in Bainbridge, Ohio.

An 8-year-old girl returned home safely after taking her mother’s car and driving it to a nearby Target in Ohio, police said Sunday. Her trip to the store was captured on dashboard camera footage.

The girl, whose identity has not yet been released, was enjoying a Frappuccino when police discovered her, Bedford police said in a Facebook post.

“I finally found a woman who is in a greater hurry to shop at Target than my wife,” Bedford police wrote in a Facebook post. “Eight years in a greater hurry. That’s right, an eight-year-old took mom’s car this morning and drove to Target in Bainbridge to shop.”

The girl was found unharmed, but had attacked a mailbox

Police tracked down the 8-year-old after family members reported her and her mother’s 2020 Nissan Rogue missing just before 9 a.m. Sunday, the Bedford police report states. Ring camera footage captured by the neighbor’s security camera showed the girl “get into the SUV and drive away” around 7 a.m. with “no one present but herself,” the police report states. Police also received a call about a young child driving a vehicle matching the description.

A video of the girl’s journey shows the SUV swerving and constantly changing lanes while driving.

The girl was not injured during her ride, but told officers she “hit a mailbox,” the police report states. Police found the vehicle was damaged.

Girl caught drinking Frappuccino in store

The vehicle was eventually tracked down in the Target parking lot, about 25 minutes from the girl’s home. The girl was since found inside the store and her family members drove to the Bainbridge store to pick her up, the police report said.

While it is not known if she purchased anything or “if she was even able to use her Target app to save 5%,” police said she was “made to finish her Frappuccino.” It is also not known how she paid for her drink.

“We are not mean,” Bedford police said in their post.
