Oktoberfest: Monika Gruber and Co. – these celebrities will be tapping in 2024

Oktoberfest: Monika Gruber and Co. – these celebrities will be tapping in 2024

Munich – There’s no question: On Saturday, Mayor Dieter Reiter will once again have to carry out his most important official act of the year (at least as far as the almost worldwide media interest is concerned): At exactly twelve o’clock, he will tap the first keg of Wiesn beer in the Schottenhamel tent and thus officially open the 189th Oktoberfest.

Will Reiter (SPD) only need two masterful hits again this year before the beer flows? He clearly hopes so. What is certain, however, is that he will be competing in his lederhosen again.

When the mayor of Munich boldly swings his mallet in the Schottenhamel tent, he usually gets noticed, but not only at the Oktoberfest. In other festival tents, too, the beer is tapped at twelve o’clock – sometimes by celebrities, sometimes by the landlords themselves.

Cabaret artist Monika Gruber is expected to join the festival hosts Christine and Lorenz Stiftl in the Schützenlisl folk singers’ tent for the tapping of the keg. It remains to be seen whether the busy “Gruberin” will also make a small singing appearance again this year.

There is also girl power on tap in the Munich Stubn festival tent. At the host couple Kathrin Wickenhäuser-Egger and Alex Egger’s, racing driver Sophia Flörsch takes up the mallet. Last year she only needed two hits, but it splashed quite a bit. “This year I’ve already tapped a test beer,” she says, adding with a laugh: “Completely dry!”

Nina Süß, who this year will go from being a fashion influencer to being a Oktoberfest beer tapper in the Reinbold family’s shooting tent, has no tapping experience yet.

Other celebrities who will be hitting the jackpot on Saturday at twelve o’clock include CSU State Minister Florian Herrmann in the (state) Hofbräuzelt and the member of the state parliament and former second mayor of Munich Josef Schmid (CSU) in the Fischer-Vroni.

No one could have been found who was suitable for the new Boandlkramerei marquee at the Oidn Wiesn: actor Maximilian Brückner plays the Boandlkramer in Brandner Kaspar at the Volkstheater. He says of his role on Saturday: “I’m really looking forward to the Ozapfa!”

As are many Oktoberfest innkeepers who make the beer flow in their festival tents themselves.

“That’s a matter for the boss,” says Thomas Roiderer from the Hackerzelt with a smile. He expects to only need two hits again this year – as does Steffi Spendler, the hostess of the Löwenbräuzelt, and her colleagues Thomas Vollmer (Augustinerzelt), Peter Inselkammer (Armbrustschützenzelt) and Peter Reichert (Bräurosl).

Not every tent at the Wiesn will have a keg tapped at the opening

At the Oktoberfest innkeeper Antje Haberl’s in the Ochsenbraterei, however, the beer is not tapped at all. After a welcome and a fanfare, the beer simply flows at twelve o’clock. “The honor of tapping traditionally belongs to our mayor,” says Haberl.

It should also be noted that the mayor’s tapping spectacle has been celebrated in the Schottenhamel tent since 1950. A successful performance – with as few blows as possible and openly displayed (genuine!) Wiesn joy – has always earned the respective Munich mayor many sympathy points.
