Nick Kyrgios discovered via Sinner’s Fashion Week appearance, Kerber takes part in the Laver Cup

In our daily dose of social media, we highlight the most notable activities and moments of ATP and WTA players. Jannik Sinner was in the spotlight at Milan Fashion Week, while Nick Kyrgios once again criticized the world number 1 on social media.
At the start of the Laver Cup, local hero Angelique Kerber took part in the coin toss of the night session and also mingled with Ana Ivanovic in the audience. Meanwhile, Maria Sharapova caused a stir when she met David Beckham in New York, and Holger Rune weighed in on the debate about the GOAT of tennis.

Sharapova and Beckham together in New York

Former world number one Maria Sharapova met David Beckham again at an event held by their mutual sponsor Stella Artois in New York. In addition to the former footballer, Sharapova is an ambassador for the brand. The event was also attended by singer Ludacris, actor Matt Damon and American YouTuber Sean Evans.

Both Sharapova and Beckham are prime examples of athletes who have successfully transitioned into the world of fashion. This isn’t the first time the two have been in the spotlight together. The five-time Grand Slam champion attended an event for Beckham’s wife, Victoria Beckham Womenswear, at Paris Fashion Week just a few months ago.

Jannik Sinner is the frontrunner at Milan Fashion Week 2024

Jannik Sinner took center stage at Milan Fashion Week 2024, following in the footsteps of his Italian colleague Matteo Berrettini on the catwalk. The world number one sat front row at the Gucci show on Friday, September 20.

Sinner, who has been sponsored by Gucci since 2022, wore a look styled by Sabato De Sarno. The two-time Grand Slam champion wore slim trousers and a boxy jacket with patch pockets, paired with white Nike Air Force 1 sneakers. At the event, Sinner presented with celebrities such as Anna Wintour, Kirsten Dunst, SvevaAlviti and Jin from BTS.

For Sinner, these are his last days in Italy before he travels to the China Open next week, where the Asian swing begins. The Italian will first compete in the ATP 500 Beijing Open, followed by the Shanghai Masters, the penultimate Masters 1000 of the season.

Nick Kyrgios reacts to Jannik Sinner’s Milan Fashion Week photos

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios reacted to photos of Jannik Sinner at Milan Fashion Week. Kyrgios was among the most vocal critics after news of Sinner’s positive doping test, which took place in Indian Wells in March, became public in August, just days before the US Open.

The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up expressed the view that Sinner was treated differently from other players who were banned, although Sinner was later declared innocent. In the Italian’s case, there was no ban and the doping incident only came to light in August when his innocence was proven.

A Twitter user shared a photo of Sinner at a Gucci fashion show with the caption: “Are we just going to pretend the failed drug tests never happened and everything is going on as usual? 🤦🏽”

Kyrgios responded to the post and mocked Sinner by sarcastically calling him a “victim” and captioning it with a laughing emoji: “Yeah, of course – nothing happened bro 🤣 he’s the victim,” Kyrgios wrote.

Angelique Kerber joins Laver Cup activities in Berlin

Former world number one and three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber took part in the activities of the Laver Cup, which is currently being held in Berlin, and shares some photos on social media. Kerber, who recently retired after a first-round loss to Yulia Putintseva at Wimbledon, has not completely retired from tennis.

The German tennis icon was actively involved in the launch of the Laver Cup and was cheered on by the crowd on the Central Court. She also had the honor of tossing the coin for the match between Grigor Dimitrov and Alejandro Tabilo in the night session. The 36-year-old former player was later photographed with AnaIvanovic.

Wozniacki enjoys MLS soccer in St. Louis

Caroline Wozniacki is spending time in St. Louis, Missouri, and attended an MLS soccer game with her husband, former NBA player David Lee. The Danish tennis player skipped the Asian Swing to enjoy some family moments in the American city where her husband was born.

Since returning to the tour a year ago, the 34-year-old has missed several tournaments, often mentioning that she is trying to balance her family life with her tennis career. Earlier this season, Wozniacki also canceled the Middle East Swing in February.

She most recently competed at the US Open, where she reached the round of 16 before losing to 22nd seed Beatriz Haddad Maia. Wozniacki has only played in 12 tournaments this season (with a record of 15-12) and is currently ranked No. 72 in the world. Despite this, the former world No. 1 has shown that she is still playing at a high level with wins over players such as Leylah Fernandez, Elina Svitolina and Donna Vekic.

“Who is the GOAT?” – Holger Rune comments on the debate about the Big-3

Holger Rune took part in a new ATP Tour interview on social media alongside content creator Sharku while waiting for his debut in the Asia Swing. The former world No. 5 chose Gael Monfils as the “nicest player”: “This is such a funny guy,” while the most underrated player in the Dane’s opinion is Daniil Medvedev: “I mean, he’s not underrated because he’s won a Grand Slam, but his game is so difficult to play,” Rune explained.

In another question, Rune had to choose the GOAT, and he named the Big 3: Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. However, when the interviewer pressed further, Rune admitted that in his opinion Roger Federer is the greatest tennis player of all time.

“Who should have won more titles on the tour?” Sharku later asked. “I think Andy Murray should have won more Grand Slam titles,” commented the former Paris Masters champion.

Tsitsipas and Medvedev channel their inner Spiderman

Stefanos Tsitsipas has shared a funny photo on social media with Daniil Medvedev during the Laver Cup. The Greek and the Russian are competing for Team Europe for the second time, having already competed together at the 2021 tournament and enjoyed a comfortable 14-1 victory over Team World.

Tsitsipas made his debut in the morning with a clear win over Thanasi Kokkinakis (6-1, 6-4), while Medvedev will make his debut on Saturday, with his opponent still to be decided. In the afternoon, Medvedev and Tsitsipas posed for a photo, jokingly recreating a popular meme of two spidermen pointing at each other: “How did we do, @DaniilMedved? 👉👈,” Tsitsipas captioned it.
