200 car parking spaces will be converted into mini-parks

Leipzig- For a whole day, many Leipzig residents reclaimed a part of their city that was actually taken up by cars: the parking spaces.

The environmental association Ökolöwe called for a park day in Leipzig on Friday.

The idea was to convert 200 gaps that were originally used as parking spaces into green oases and thus make them usable for people.

The organisation Fridays for Future also used the concept and called for a rally in the parking spaces on Eisenbahnstrasse, among other places.

“On PARK(ing) Day, we will show together with many Leipzig residents how easy and quick it is to make public spaces more attractive, fairer and more livable,” explains Ökolöwen spokesman Matthias Uhlig.

For example, they installed a so-called parklet in Kolonnadenstraße.

The green seating area is the size of a parking space and is intended to show how parking spaces can still be used. The small resting place can now even remain permanently.
