Ukrainian drones attack residential blocks deep inside Russia

At least four people were injured in the attack on the Saratov region on Monday morning

Ukrainian kamikaze drones have hit high-rise buildings in Russia’s Saratov region, Governor Roman Busargin said in the early hours of Monday.

According to Busargin, the air defense responded to the attack, but falling “drone fragments” hit houses in the cities of Saratov and Engels.

A video posted on Telegram shows the moment a drone hit a 38-story apartment block in Saratov, a city of 950,000 in western Russia.

Four people were injured, including a woman whose condition remains critical, RIA Novosti reported, citing the regional health department.

Another UAV crashed into an apartment block in Engels, with the debris damaging parked cars.

In addition, a drone was shot down over the Bryansk region, said Governor Alexander Bogomaz.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that 20 drones were intercepted overnight, including nine over the Saratov region.

On August 6, Ukraine began invading Russia’s Kursk region, overrunning dozens of villages and Sudzha, a border town with a pre-conflict population of 5,000. According to Russian authorities, at least 31 civilians were killed and more than 140 injured during the Ukrainian offensive.

Heavy fighting continues in Kursk as Moscow has deployed additional forces to repel the invaders.
