After their first defeat under new coach Arne Slot, Liverpool will be looking to strike back in their Premier League match against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Despite losing to Nottingham Forest last weekend, Liverpool sit fourth in the Premier League with three wins from four games and can mostly look back on positive results as Slot settles in at Anfield. The task will be to continue the strong start when they host Bournemouth, who have won just one league game so far but are looking to build one of England’s best attacks.

Here’s what you need to know before you turn it on.

Storylines

After a number of clear wins for Slot, last week has brought a little more colour to the future. On Saturday they clearly struggled against Nottingham Forest, with the Reds playing deep in defence and unable to improve despite 14 shots on goal. However, on Tuesday they showed they can bounce back, coming from 1-0 down after just three minutes to win 3-1 at AC Milan in their opening UEFA Champions League game.

While Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz topped the team’s goalscoring charts with three goals each, Tuesday’s trip to Milan provided Liverpool with an opportunity to showcase their wide range of goal-scoring ability. Dominik Szoboszlai got on the scoresheet, as did two centre-backs – Ibrahima Konate and the aerially strong Virgil van Dijk. Salah and Diaz will still likely be the main men in attack against Bournemouth, but it seems Liverpool are starting to flex all their muscles as the Dutchman settles into his new job.

forecast

Aside from the loss to Forest, everything seems to be going in the right direction for Slot in his first few weeks at Liverpool, so expect another straightforward outing from the Reds against a Bournemouth side still honing their game plan. Choose: Liverpool 2, Bournemouth 0
