Heatwave expected to ease this week

After another very warm weekend with daytime temperatures of up to 38 to 39 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country, the National Weather Service is predicting a break in the heat for the new week.

According to EMY, temperatures will drop in the eastern parts of the country, reaching 34-25 degrees Celsius on the mainland, 33-34 degrees on the Ionian Islands and Crete, and 29-30 degrees in other parts of the Aegean. On Monday, skies will be mostly clear, but during the day some clouds will move in over the Ionian Sea, spreading eastwards and bringing brief showers and thunderstorms to western and central Greece.

On Tuesday, daytime temperatures will continue to range between -2 and -3 degrees Celsius, while cloudy skies will spread further east over the rest of the country, with rain possible in the Peloponnese and Thrace.
