In a flood of camera releases from DJI and GoPro, Insta360 has remained comparatively quiet: While there have been some leaks and rumors about cameras like the Ace Pro 2, the company itself has remained silent. But now, with leaks about the new Insta360 Link 2, we have our first details about this new high-end webcam.

Thanks to leaker @Quadro_News, we have a first look at the features of the Insta360 Link 2. In a series of posts, he describes all the various improvements and additions to the Link 2 in detail:

This is a pretty extensive leak, but what exactly is new about the Insta360 Link 2?

Insta360 Link 2 Specifications

Based on these specs alone, you might think that the Link 2 isn’t really improved: with the same video functionality, sensor size, and lens, the original specs are pretty minimal. But as the leak reveals more details, the additions are less tangible in numbers and more in overall functionality.

Starting with autofocus, the new phase-detect AF system is closer to what’s used on full-fledged cameras: it focuses more sharply and with minimal blur. Given the f/1.8 aperture, improvements here make for sharper, better-looking webcam shots. At the same time, you can set custom boundaries and tracking distances to ensure the webcam stops and starts focusing on you again when you want it to. Thanks to a new AI-based algorithm and a built-in gimbal, the Link 2 follows you no matter what the frame is.

Speaking of which, the Link 2 comes with a compatible tripod that makes it easy to rotate the webcam to film vertically for social media shots. And with optimized low-light performance and lifelike high dynamic range, you can be sure your video content—be it live streams, short-form or long-form footage—will look great.

But what about the audio? The implementation of AI into the noise-cancelling features means that the Link 2’s single microphone will apparently be more versatile. 3 modes – Quiet, Crowded and Streaming – allow you to adjust your audio levels while maintaining high quality. And if talking isn’t your thing, you can control the camera with a series of programmed gestures.

Overall, we’re very excited about this new webcam release from Insta360 – but what about a release date? While the leak is silent, the sheer amount of information suggests a release sooner rather than later. We’d bet on late October as the Insta360 Link 2 release date, but we’re not putting all our eggs in one basket. Insta360 has had a spate of leaks recently, so there are a number of products that could appear first. We’ll keep you updated on any news on this promising new webcam.
