Yannick Hanfmann has reached the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Chengdu, China. Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard from Karlsruhe beat the seventh-seeded Frenchman 6:4, 3:6, 6:3 and is now among the top eight in a tournament for the first time in almost two months.

There, the 32-year-old will face the winner of the duel between Aleksandar Vukic (Australia) and world number 42 Pedro Martinez Portero (Spain/No. 4). Hanfmann showed a concentrated performance against Mpetshi Perricard, scoring frequently with his second serve and using his first match point to win after 1:49 hours. Even 22 aces did not help the Frenchman to win.

Hanfmann’s last appearance was in the group phase of the Davis Cup, when he qualified with the German team as second in the group for the final tournament of the best eight nations in Malaga (November 19 to 24). Hanfmann won both of his individual duels.
