An alliance with the 2021 Super Bowl winner, who has already been to Germany, is announced by Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines.

Frankfurt – American football is booming in Germany. This is becoming increasingly clear at the start of the new season. The Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines is now jumping on the bandwagon and has taken the momentum from the first day of play to announce a new cooperation just a few hours after the last NFL game of the opening weekend on the night of Tuesday (September 10).

The holiday airline based at Frankfurt Airport has chosen no less than the 2021 Super Bowl champions for its new marketing partnership: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team from Florida was led to great triumph by quarterback legend Tom Brady and competed in the first NFL game on German soil in November 2022. The Seattle Seahawks were defeated 21:16 in the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Brady is now a TV expert and the team is in the middle of the league in terms of sport, but the successes of the past few years and the appearance in Germany have helped the “Bucs” gain respect and fame in Europe. Now the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Discover Airlines announced in a press release that they are entering into a “multi-year partnership”. This includes joint marketing and communication measures, events and raffles for flight and game tickets. Both partners want to increase their visibility in their respective target markets, it is said.

Germany is a key international growth market for the “Bucs”. The airline sees the US state of Florida as one of its most important destinations, with 20 weekly flights from Germany. Discover Airlines offers the only connection from Frankfurt Airport to Tampa Bay.

Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines, said: “We dedicate this partnership to all sports enthusiasts and American football fans. As an airline that flies to Tampa Bay daily, we look forward to welcoming many fans on board in the future and taking them directly to these unique sporting events.”

From Frankfurt, 20 direct flights are offered to the Sunshine State every week: Tampa Bay is served daily, Orlando ten times a week and Fort Myers three times a week.

Bryan Glazer, owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, added: “This is a significant day for the Buccaneers as we celebrate our first international partnership with a German company.” Bryan Glazer – some sports fans in Europe will rightly prick up their ears. The 59-year-old not only owns the “Bucs”, but also a large share in the English football record champions Manchester United.

From a sporting perspective, it remains to be seen whether the Buccaneers will soon return to Germany. After the two NFL games in Frankfurt in November 2023, there will be another party in Munich this year. The New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers will meet then. In 2025, it will be Deutsche Bank Park’s turn again. (csa)
