Zwickau- The FSV “Zimmermann” will have to make do without its best scorer Marc-Philipp Zimmermann (34) this Friday evening at Viktoria Berlin. Older football fans may still be familiar with the FSV “Wiedemann”. In the 1990s, this was the name given to the regional league team FSV Lok Altmark Stendal, where a certain Rainer Wiedemann played as a striker and, as a part-time professional, gave the clubs from Magdeburg, Chemnitz, Dresden and Aue a run for their money.

Zwickau’s “Zimbo” is cut from a similar cloth. He goes to work every day and in his “free time” he helps his favorite club, as he called the FSV when he returned last year, to stay in the league.

He has scored three goals in seven appearances. Jahn Herrmann is just as good (three goals/eight appearances), but Zimmermann only needed half the time to do so, as he has only been on the field for 325 minutes so far.

For sports director Robin Lenk, it’s a double-edged sword: “We actually need ‘Zimbo’ every game. Period. We can’t influence the fact that that’s not the case. When duty calls, our hands are tied.”

But now comes the big but. Lenk: “We have quality in our ranks, we just need to consistently deliver. Jahn Herrmann (23) and Veron Dobruna (24) have demands and they proved their ability last season, they need to build on that.”

It doesn’t matter whether a carpenter is on the field with them or not. The sports director doesn’t see the offense as a weak point.

“Eleven goals in eight games show that our problems are not in attack. I am more critical of the 19 goals conceded in the same period,” emphasises Lenk.
