Mic’d Up CJ Stroud reprimands Bears DB for revealing a tactical secret on podcast

The Houston Texans beat the Chicago Bears 19-13 in Week 2. CJ Stroud completed 23 of 36 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown. He threw no interceptions, something Josh Dobbs couldn’t say when he quarterbacked the Minnesota Vikings against the Bears in Week 12 last season.

Dobbs threw four interceptions in that game, including one to Chicago defensive back Jaylon Johnson. The cornerback spoke about that interception on Richard Sherman’s podcast during training camp, explaining that he bet on the play while most observers would have credited the defense for winning the ball.

Johnson was expecting to jump a short route when Dobbs did a pump fake and made a quick decision.

“I saw him pumping (faking), so I was like, ‘Damn, I’ve got to get out there and help and get back,'” Johnson told Sherman. “I put my foot in the ground, got under it and he threw it up. I was like, ‘Oh, I got it!’ And I took it. Everyone saw it and was like, ‘Oh yeah, Cover 2 is great, high-low.’ I was like, ‘Nah, I was greedy.’ I wanted to make a play.”

Sherman was pleased to hear that Johnson intercepted the pass from Palms coverage and called him a “sick guy.”

Another person who liked Johnson’s story was Stroud, who told Johnson before the game to stop revealing his secrets on podcasts.

As you can see from Johnson’s face in the clip, this was the first time someone came to work and was horrified to learn that someone had heard him on a podcast.
