This is what the Linz candidates stand for in the 2024 National Council election

LINZ. For the focus on the 2024 National Council elections, Tips asked the regional top candidates from Linz in the Linz and surrounding area regional constituency for their views, positions and goals in the region on various topics. What are the candidates’ stance on climate protection?

Klaus Fürlinger for the ÖVP, Roland Baumann for the SPÖ, Michael Schilchegger for the FPÖ, Bernhard Seeber for the Greens, Georg Redlhammer for the NEOS, Christina Pree for the KPÖ, Gerhard Pötscher for the LMP and Eva Steinmayr for KEINE answered Tips’ questions on the subject of climate protection.

Klaus Fürlinger, ÖVP, constituency list position 1

30 years ago, the ÖVP focused on environmental protection with the eco-social market economy and, just as then, we are convinced that environmental protection requires innovative technologies. Austria is already playing a pioneering role in renewable energies and we want to continue this successful course by offering tax breaks for research companies.

Roland Baumann,SPÖ, constituency list position 1

Clear framework conditions and a future-proof infrastructure for a climate-friendly industry. So that we can protect the climate, support companies and create modern jobs with a future. Climate, economic and labor market policies go hand in hand.

Michael Schilchegger, FPÖ, constituency list position 1

Environmental protection is important to me. Deputy Governor Manfred Haimbuchner, as a nature conservation officer in Upper Austria, is proving how a constructive, liberal environmental policy works. EU climate communism, which is destroying our prosperity, must be stopped.

Bernhard Seeber, GREENS, constituency list position 3

The Greens are the party that pushes the envelope when it comes to protecting the climate and the environment. This is demonstrated by mistakes such as the climate ticket or the rapid expansion of renewable energy from solar and wind. It is therefore quite clear: without the Greens there will be no climate protection.

Georg Redlhammer, NEOS, constituency list position 3

We see climate protection as an opportunity for innovation and part of sustainability in the sense of the 17 UN sustainability goals. Linz must become climate neutral! We rely on sustainable mobility, renewable energies and smart urban planning that protects green spaces.

Christina Pree,KPÖ, constituency list position 1

Internationally, the crisis is also in Austria: the climate is threatening to deprive us of our livelihoods. The KPÖ is questioning the system, people should be the focus and not profits. We must finally put a stop to the excessive sealing of soil (Upper Austria is the European champion).

Gerhard Pötscher, LMP, constituency list position 2

We stand for real environmental, nature and animal protection. This goes much further than just climate protection. Hardly anything is currently happening in this area. Limiting soil sealing, reforesting protective forests and animal protection measures are urgently needed.

Eva Steinmayr, NONE, constituency list position 2

Use all resources for the energy transition so that by 2030 at the latest we only use clean, regional and cheap energy. Stop soil sealing, protect green spaces and expand public transport so that all Linz residents can experience a bearable summer.
