Siegemund defeats Wang in the longest women’s tennis match in 13 years at the Thailand Open 2024

In women’s tennis, the 2024 Thailand Open featured the longest match on the WTA Tour. In the second round of the tournament, Laura Siegemund defeated China’s Wang Xiyu 7:6, 4:6, 7:6. With a duration of four hours and nine minutes, this match was the longest match in women’s tennis this season and in the last 13 years.

During the competition, Laura Siegemund won 65 percent of the points on the first serve and two tiebreaks. In addition, Siegemund converted five break points. In the first round, she beat the American Alycia Parks in two sets with 6:4, 6:3.

Siegemund is hoping to make it into the last four for the first time this season. She has already reached the quarterfinals of a WTA tournament twice this year, but both times she was eliminated as runner-up. At a WTA tournament in Adelaide earlier this year, she was knocked out of the competition just before the quarterfinals against Russian Daria Kasatkina. She later played in the round of 16 at the Morocco Open, where she lost to Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Laura Siegemund will now face the Spanish Rebeka Masarova, who secured her place in the quarterfinals with a 7:6, 3:6, 7:5 win in the round of 16 against the Chinese Xinyu Wang. It is the first time ever that both players have met in professional tennis.
