German Davis Cup team meets Canada

German Davis Cup team meets Canada

The German tennis men have been given a solvable task for the round of 16 in the Davis Cup. However, it is still unclear what the team will look like in Malaga.

The German men’s tennis team will first meet Canada in the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup finals in Malaga. This was the result of the draw for the finals on Thursday. In the semifinals, team manager Michael Kohlmann’s team would play against either Spain or the Netherlands.

The German team qualified for the final round from November 19 to 24 in Zhuhai, China, last week despite a severely weakened squad. Without world number two Alexander Zverev, Jan-Lennard Struff and Dominik Koepfer, Yannick Hanfmann, Maximilian Marterer, Henry Squire and the two doubles specialists Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz finished second in their group behind the USA.

It has not yet been decided which team Germany will compete with in Malaga in November. Zverev has so far left his participation open. The ATP Finals will take place in Turin directly before the Davis Cup finals. If Zverev were to play in Malaga afterwards, his break would be shortened even further. The new season will begin again at the end of December with the United Cup in Australia, where Zverev and Germany are defending champions.

For Canada, Felix Auger-Aliassime is currently ranked 21st in the world and the best-ranked player.
