Have the Switch 2 factory leaks been debunked or confirmed? Here’s what we know

Does it make sense to select the parts of a rumor that are still credible?

Yesterday we reported on a major leak about the Nintendo Switch 2, which is supposedly coming straight from the factory. But how much of this leak was true?

We need to break this down further. If you remember, we reported that some images were leaked and that the specifications of the console were also leaked. These leaks come from different sources, so we may look at them differently.

Well, maybe it’s a good thing we didn’t publish any of the images that were making the rounds yesterday. These images appear to include CAD (computer-aided design) images of the console, as well as photos of actual components.

Rumor: GTA 6 internally postponed to 2026, Jason Schreier can neither confirm nor deny it (yet)

There’s a hot rumor about Grand Theft Auto 6 that people don’t want to believe is true.

Our original source on Reddit has now updated their post to explain that they do not believe the CAD images are real. Redditor MisterSheeple said the following:

“The CAD renderings may not be real. It was not stated that the renderings were models, but the original author was a 3D modeling enthusiast, so that possibility is something to consider. However, the two photos showing actual hardware are likely real.”

Subsequently, another Reddit user commented on the photos. Some gamers have theorized that the components were 3D printed and not built in the factory. They claim that the images could not have been 3D printed. Their argument goes as follows:

“To achieve such perfect 3D printing, you would need a nozzle with a diameter of 0.1 mm or less (the recommended size would be 0.05 m), and such prints are very, very difficult to perform and not only difficult but also very inaccessible precisely because of the amount of 3D printers that support such a nozzle.

Furthermore, there are no “signs” of 3D printed objects in this image. There are absolutely no defects, no support marks, the colors are perfectly distributed, which would be possible with more precision on IDEX (dual extrusion) printers, which are extremely expensive.”

Now, one must say: if the CAD images are not real but come from the same source as the photos, doesn’t that increase the credibility of the photos in question? Even if one can argue that the photos are more credible, the credibility of the source calls into question everything they shared.

But it seems we have more credible sources backing up the rumor about the Switch 2’s specs. Once again, Reddit found a website page belonging to GeekShare, a company that makes video game accessories. GeekShare’s manager Hotneca seemingly confirmed that the leak is real. Since that post was deleted, we only have this Reddit as proof that the claim was ever made.

Eventually, we came across VideoGamesChronicle, who shared this tidbit with us in their coverage of the rumor:

“While the images are unverified, a source who has not seen the final ‘Switch 2’ console but is briefed on Nintendo’s plans told VGC that the Reddit images are consistent with what the company has told its partners of its design.”

And here it seems necessary to make a special distinction. VideoGamesChronicle’s source did not explain whether the images are real or fake. But they say they are consistent with what they know.

So it’s entirely possible that the whole Switch 2 leaked image thing is fake after all. But the fakers guessed so cleverly that one of VideoGamesChronicle’s sources confirms that these guesses are close to correct.

The specs rumor also lines up with what dataminers previously discovered when examining shipping data at Nintendo’s factory. VideoGamesChronicle’s source hasn’t confirmed this here, but we can consider these details credible based on the external evidence.

Of course, in the end, you may be skeptical about everything that was talked about yesterday. As we mentioned, if these details apply only to the prototype, the final product may have a completely different shape.

The funny thing is that if what we said above is the case, Nintendo may not be able to comment on this rumor at all. They may be perfectly happy to reveal the Switch 2 sooner than they originally wanted to, and apparently that could still happen next month.

Really, we’ll find out when we find out.
