Engine failure on Cathay Pacific Airbus A350 investigated

Engine failure on Cathay Pacific Airbus A350 investigated

During a recent investigation, the Hong Kong Air Accident Authority found that a burst fuel hose caused an in-flight engine failure on Cathay Pacific’s Airbus A350 and showed signs of fire. The investigation discovered five other secondary fuel hoses that showed signs of deterioration.

According to AAIA, this serious incident highlights the danger that undetected fuel leaks can cause serious engine fires. The release follows an engine fire warning for Cathay’s flight CX383 to Zurich, which had to return to Hong Kong.

As a precautionary measure, Cathay Pacific began inspecting all Airbus A350 aircraft, a step also taken by the European Aviation Safety Agency (AAIA). The AAIA has recommended that Rolls-Royce provide ongoing updates on the airworthiness of the affected components.
