Touchdown, theatricality and teddy bears: The SS25 street styles from London

The current looks for SS25 were presented in London. Despite the summery styles on the catwalk, nothing changes the fact that summer is over and the days are getting shorter and colder again. But that also promises new possibilities, because layers and thicker fabrics can be used to create new street styles that have to stay in the closet when the temperatures are hot. Here we show how Londoners are dealing with the change in the weather.

First of all: layering, layering and more layering are the key.

Denimania

When the leaves change color and a cold breeze blows, the first thing that usually happens is that you reach for a lighter, summery fabric and go for a heavier one. Denim is the first choice, especially in street style, as can be seen in many places in the English capital.

The complete jeans look has been a real hit again for a few seasons. However, if you think of it as just a simple jacket and trousers, you are wrong. Wearers who still wear this classic combination rely on patterns such as batik, patches and tribal embroidery to spice up the style.

But denim also goes beyond these workwear-oriented pieces and has developed into a versatile material. The boundaries are wide open and offer scope for skirts, dresses, tops and of course layering.

Touchdown in London

Sports jerseys and team merchandise are also making the rounds again this season. However, US sports seem to have replaced the football-oriented “blokecore” trend. Instead of Bayern, Spain and Ronaldo, guests at Fashion Week are wearing jerseys and oversized jackets from ice hockey, baseball and American football teams.

However, it is not clear whether the wearers are already preparing for the American football games of several US teams in London next month or are simply enthusiastic about the style. What is clear is that the look around the jersey is quite free and sunglasses are essential.

‘Teddy look’

If you’re not into sports and are already longing for hibernation, these cuddly friends are sure to be a good choice. Be it the tartan teddy from Vivienne Westwood’s brand new capsule with the streetwear and skateboard brand Palace or a plush dog whose pearl necklace matches your own look. Alternatively, keychains with Winnie the Pooh, Hello Kitty and Co. and designer bags also exude a playful, cuddly vibe.

This vibe is either reflected in the equally playful look of the wearer and thus becomes a suitable accessory or is more of a subtle detail in an otherwise understated look.

Animal bags

The animal bags by JW Anderson were probably the accessories of the season. Whether frog, hedgehog or pigeon, the pieces by the Irish fashion designer, who presented his current collection for the label of the same name in London, were seen everywhere. Many of the wearers matched the color of the key piece. They came in a green coat, based on the gray-silver of the pigeon and opted for the dark tones of the hedgehog.

Gothic

Speaking of dark: Not only are the days getting dark, but so are the looks on the streets of London. Some visitors were inspired by various currents of the Gothic subculture. The styles range from Victorian vampires with ruffles and lace to a punky, rockier aesthetic to the skimpy raver look.

For many, the focus was of course on the colour black, but white and cream tones were also present. What seems important – regardless of the trend – is striking make-up around the eyes, accessories such as cross necklaces and chokers, boots and knee-length stockings as well as hair accessories.

Icing on the cake

The right headgear can be crucial for a look. In London, some visitors showed up with very special caps, balaclavas and other pieces that mostly hugged the round shape of the head.

Depending on the look and aesthetic, the pieces varied from playful pieces with a DIY character to perfectly coordinated pieces that sometimes merged into the top like a hood or were styled underneath. The outfit ranged from light and subtle to many layers and details.

Attention to detail

Details and lots of layers are the key words of London street style. With attention to detail, accessories and styling, the wearers show how a very special outfit can be created. This may take a little getting used to at first glance, but it definitely attracts attention and proves once again how much fun fashion can be.
