PHS and South play tie in boys soccer during Rivalry Week

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) –

On the second night of Rivalry Week in Parkersburg, the Big Reds and Patriots met in boys soccer at Stadium Field, and although it initially looked like the score would go one way, the score turned around in the final 20 minutes.

Parkersburg and Parkersburg South played to a 2-2 tie on Tuesday night, but one team took a second-half lead. Parkersburg South went into halftime with a 1-0 lead after Nicho Rowland scored on a penalty kick with 3:56 left.

In the second half, Rowland assisted Connor Roberts on a free kick with 23:52 left to take a 2-0 lead, but the Big Reds caught up.

Joe Graziani got a loose ball on his foot and fired it into the net with 11:52 left. Then with 2:47 left, the Big Reds were awarded a free kick and Jaydon Fluharty converted it to tie the game at 2-2. Fluharty also set up a possible assist to Quinton Wright with a minute left, but the shot went wide of the net and the game ended in a tie.

The Big Reds hold a record of 1-0-1 during Rivalry Week, with the golf teams meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
