Multisport event – Six new sports at the 2025 Finals in Dresden – Sport

Dresden (dpa) – The organizers of the finals are planning to include six new sports for the 5th edition of the multi-sport event in Dresden next year. Badminton, fistball, flag football, lacrosse, sports acrobatics and rugby sevens are on the program for the first time. ARD and ZDF announced at the program presentation in Dresden that they would again be reporting extensively on all four days live on television and in the media libraries.

The 2025 finals will take place for the first time in the Saxon capital from July 31 to August 3. According to current planning, German championship titles in 18 sports will be awarded at eight sports venues in Dresden. The athletics competitions will take place in the newly opened Heinz Steyer Stadium.

Learned from the Olympics

Several competitions are planned in the heart of the Saxon capital. Spectators can watch the German championships in 3×3 basketball and climbing speed at the Neumarkt directly in front of the Frauenkirche. A special highlight will be the canoe sprint and stand-up paddling competitions, which are planned in the Zwingergraben.

“We learned from the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris that the courage to focus on special competition venues is rewarded,” said canoe Olympic champion Tom Liebscher. After the 2023 Rhine-Ruhr Finals, which also featured 18 sports and attracted more than 200,000 spectators, the event took a break this year due to the Olympic Games in Paris.

“Our goal is to further develop the multi-sport event together with the state of Saxony, the associations, ARD and ZDF,” said Hagen Boßdorf, Managing Director of Finals GmbH. “I am convinced that we will succeed in doing this in Dresden, we will set new standards again.” Proximity and beauty are the new standard.”
