Even after almost 48 hours, heavy flames are still blazing from the Deer Park pipeline

DEER PARK, Texas – No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you – a pipeline fire in Deer Park is still blazing, two days since we first brought you this report.

FIRST REPORT: Large-scale evacuations after massive pipeline fire in Deer Park; authorities believe the fire was sparked by a vehicle hitting a valve

Deer Park officials acknowledged it would take some time to extinguish the flames after a pipe burst Monday morning when an SUV driver drove through a fence and crashed into the valve.

For this reason, residents are still unable to return to their homes.

The pipeline’s owner, Energy Transfer, is paying for a second night in hotels for those residents. One piece of good news is that the evacuation area has been narrowed as hazmat teams and firefighters prepare to search every home to make sure everyone is safely out.

Families told KPRC 2 they heard a loud bang and felt their homes shake after investigators said someone drove an SUV through a fence and hit an above-ground vent.

Continuous reporting on the pipe fire in Deer Park

It is still unclear whether the driver caused the accident intentionally or whether he survived. The city administration says it will not be able to receive this information until the fire is completely extinguished.

For those who need assistance, Energy Transfer has set up a helpline for those affected. The telephone number is (855) 430-4491.
