Champions League on Tuesday: FC Bayern Munich hosts Dinamo Zagreb

Initial report: The Champions League is starting again! On the first matchday of the premier class, FC Bayern Munich will face Dinamo Zagreb in the Allianz Arena on Tuesday (17 September). For Neuer, Müller and Co., this Champions League season is not just about reaching the final, but about the “final at home”. The final of the premier class will take place in FCB’s home stadium on 31 May 2025. The German record champions could take their first step towards the final on Tuesday in the newly introduced league phase against Dinamo Zagreb.

For the second final appearance “at home” – Bayern already played a Champions League final in the Allianz Arena in 2012 – the team coached by Vincent Kompany would have to go a step further than the previous season. In May, FCB were knocked out in the semi-finals by eventual title winners Real Madrid. In the first leg in Munich, the two teams drew 2-2. The Madrilenians then won the second leg 2-1 in the Bernabéu Stadium and thus secured their place in the final.

For Bayern’s first opponent, Dinamo Zagreb, participation in the Champions League is not a given. The Croatian club qualified for the premier class via the play-offs in August. Coach Sergej Jakirovic’s team prevailed against Qarabağ Ağdam. Zagreb won the first leg 3-0. Dinamo also won the second leg 2-0. In the duel with the German record champions, Jakirovic’s team is a clear underdog.
