News in the Tua case – Chiefs react to failure

News in the Tua case – Chiefs react to failure

The Miami Dolphins will now have to do without their quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for four weeks, while the Kansas City Chiefs have added a well-known player to the practice squad.

What’s next for Tua Tagovailoa? First of all, he’ll be out of NFL action for at least four weeks.

After Dolphins playmaker Tua Tagovailoa suffered another concussion after a run of his own and a subsequent collision in the recent Thursday Night Game of Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills (10:31), there was great concern.

And it will stay that way. Because it is still not clear what the future holds for the Hawaiian’s career. Will the 26-year-old, who will seek help from neurologists, retire for a longer period of time or even end his career completely?

The only thing that is clear at the moment is that Miami’s officials, including head coach Mike McDaniel, have, as expected, placed their quarterback on “injured reserve” after his third concussion in three years. A player on this list will not take part in active action for at least four weeks.

The Fins, who started 1-1, will go into the next games, including the upcoming away game against the Seattle Seahawks (Sunday, 10:05 p.m. CET), with reserve Skylar Thompson. The 27-year-old was drafted by Miami in the 7th round at 247th place in the 2022 NFL Draft and has very little experience at the highest level of football so far. In eight appearances, he has 614 passing yards, one touchdown pass and three interceptions allowed.

“It helps”

In addition, Tyler Huntley has already been signed from the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad to upgrade the roster.

Coach McDaniel emphasizes, however, that Huntley’s signing is not a direct criticism of quarterback Thompson. Rather, he hopes it will provide impetus: “It helps the dynamics among quarterbacks to have another player with experience.”

Chiefs bring back Hunt

Meanwhile, injuries at other teams – in addition to the troubled San Francisco 49ers (Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel), the reigning Super Bowl champion from Kansas City is also affected – are leading to measures being taken.

Kareem Hunt

Could soon be back in the Chiefs jersey: Kareem Hunt.

As is well known, the Chiefs will have to do without their regular running back Isiah Pacheco for a long time and, because there is no other real top solution on the roster, have added Kareem Hunt to the “practice squad.”

The now 29-year-old, who has already made negative headlines off the field, was drafted by Kansas City in the 3rd round and 86th place in the 2017 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he rushed for 1,327 yards and 11 touchdowns. This was followed by the video scandal and appearances in the Cleveland Browns jersey until recently – including nine scores in 2023/24.
