Fresh alternative to cable and satellite TV

Telefónica Deutschland, or rather its brand o2, launched a new product in Germany this month: o2 TV. The new version does not use the technology from waipu.tv. The offer with over 130 HD channels is seen as an alternative to traditional cable and satellite television. They also want to entice you with additional functions such as personalized recommendations. And of course, launch offers are also a must.

To start with, the o2 TV XL package including Netflix is ​​available for 9.99 euros per month. Generally, when booking the o2 TV M/L/XL tariff, a voucher for three months of RTL+ Premium is valid. It will start on September 25, 2024. The new offer replaces the previous TV product of the same name from 02 and is intended to stand out from the competition, for example through new premium media libraries. Of course, the company will also benefit from the elimination of the additional costs privilege and thus poach customers from Vodafone.

The new o2 TV is advertised as being of interest to anyone who wants entertainment and internet access from a single source. The platform also includes a digital video library, which the company says allows you to rent blockbusters and new releases shortly after their cinema release. You can create up to 5 profiles so that each user receives their own recommendations. Children’s profiles are also possible in this way.

o2 TV offers many special features

o2 TV also allows you to pause or restart programs from the linear program. There is also a recording memory of 100 hours available. You can then also set up recordings on your smartphone using the companion app, for example. Up to four people can watch TV at the same time, both at home and on the go on smartphones, tablets or laptops. The new o2 TV can be added to an o2 landline or postpaid mobile tariff.

To start with, there are the promotional offers mentioned above. The Pay-TV option for o2 TV for the regular price of 6.99 per month is also free for one month when you book for the first time. However, it can only be booked in conjunction with an active tariff in the o2 TV M, L or XL series and has a minimum term of one month. It can then be canceled at any time. This includes 40 additional Pay-TV channels. o2 is also offering the TV packages M and L free of charge for the first month to try out.

For existing o2 TV customers, nothing will change for the time being. They can continue to use their existing product as usual until further notice. The new offering includes live broadcasts, media libraries, video libraries and pay-TV content. Users only need the o2 TV app, which they install on their existing devices such as TV, tablet, laptop or smartphone. An internet connection from any provider and a suitable device are sufficient.
