Fire brigade relies on cargo bikes: New trend in the Odenwald

Instead of a fire engine, now a cargo bike: The fire department is relying on two wheels – at least in the Odenwald. How does firefighting equipment fit on a bike? And what advantages does this offer in operations?

Going to firefighting operations by bike: In Reichelsheim in the Odenwald, this is becoming a reality. The southern Hessian municipality will be using an electric cargo bike for its fire department in the future. The Packster 70 from Riese & Müller transports materials and secures emergency sites.

At the IAA Transportation in Hanover, the Hessian e-bike manufacturer is presenting its latest models for professional users. From firefighters to chimney sweeps – the cargo bikes are set to revolutionize everyday working life.

The fire brigade bike is based on the Packster 70 e-cargo bike. It absorbs bumps and, thanks to its electric motor, travels quickly even when carrying a load. Disc brakes stop it safely and reflectors make it visible.

The cable steering allows for tight turning maneuvers. The loading area is large enough to transport everything the helpers need on the job. An additional package improves the lighting for operations.

Craftsmen are also discovering the advantages. A Berlin chimney sweep company, for example, is already using the Transporter2 85 with a lockable tool box and side ladder. Parking problems in the city center? That’s all.

The IAA Transport in Hanover is showing the future of logistics until September 22nd. Between huge buses and trucks, this dwarf also attracts attention. And proves that even small solutions can have a big impact.
