The topic of digitalization has long since arrived in the stationary food retail sector. Lidl Austria introduced a digital customer card with the Lidl Plus app back in 2018. Today, over a million people in Austria alone use the many benefits of Lidl Plus. With Lidl Pay, the payment process is now even easier and faster.

Anyone who activates Lidl Pay can pay for purchases in seconds by scanning the Lidl Plus app. The payment amount is debited by credit or debit card. The official payment partner is Mastercard.

Thanks to the e-commerce capability of the new debit Mastercard, every Austrian can now shop easily, quickly and securely using the Lidl Plus app. However, cards from other providers can also be used for the payment service.

To activate, the card numbers must be stored in the Lidl Plus app. If you want to pay with Lidl Pay, the payment must be confirmed briefly with a PIN, fingerprint or Face ID before scanning the Lidl Plus app.

In addition to introducing the new payment system, Lidl Austria has now also launched the first self-service checkouts in some Salzburg branches. The new checkouts shorten waiting times and thus increase customer satisfaction.

The new systems are a customer-oriented alternative, especially for quick and easy shopping, and also provide additional relief for employees at the checkouts. Here, too, Lidl Austria uses Mastercard as its official payment partner. The new checkout systems will be in use nationwide by 2028.
