Wipro requires three days per week in the office, otherwise vacation cuts are threatened

Wipro has introduced a new policy that requires employees to work in the office at least three days a week. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in loss of vacation days for each day missed.

The company communicated this change via email on September 2nd and asked employees to follow the new rules on being in the office. The email also instructed the HR team to cancel any previously approved work-from-home requests and stated that deviations from this new policy would result in vacation days being deducted.

“If there are any such approvals, please revoke them with immediate effect and ask the teams to be in the office at least three days a week. Vacation days should be deducted from the system for any deviation from the above WFO policy,” the email said.

One employee explained that the rule is very simple: if you are not in the office on one of the prescribed days, your holiday entitlement will be reduced accordingly. So if an employee does not comply with the prescribed three days, all three days will be counted as holiday.

This new policy only affects certain projects within Wipro and does not apply to the entire workforce.

Wipro’s new policy reflects a broader trend in the Indian IT sector. LTIMindtree has introduced a similar policy that requires employees to work in the office four days a week or risk losing a vacation day. This initiative, called Rhythm, aims to revitalize the office culture.

Similarly, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has linked office attendance to variable salaries and required its employees to work in the office five days a week. Infosys has also introduced a similar three-day office attendance rule.
