Information meeting at noon: Floods: No all-clear in Eastern Europe

There is no all-clear in the Czech-Polish border region. The situation there is particularly dramatic. The area has been affected by the worst flooding in three decades. Several people in the Czech Republic are still missing. Thousands had to be brought to safety. Hundreds of thousands were without electricity, roads and train routes had to be closed. The situation in Poland is similar: There are many cities that no longer have electricity, gas or water. Residents are reporting on social media that they are completely cut off from the outside world.

Lower Austria declared disaster area since Sunday

In the north-east of Austria, water levels are expected to continue to rise on many rivers. According to the operations management, the rain will become heavier again. The focus is particularly on the Ottenstein reservoir. Since yesterday, water has been shooting through flood valves into the valley. This controlled release is intended to prevent water from the lake from running over the dam wall. Even more water is to be released from the dam today. More than 1,100 houses in the area have now been evacuated. The state of Lower Austria has been considered a disaster area since Sunday.
