Bundesliga: Werder’s match winner Köhn on dream debut: “Goosebumps”

Werder Bremen’s match winner Derrick Köhn made his dream debut in the Bundesliga against FSV Mainz 05. “It’s just beautiful,” said the 25-year-old after the northern Germans’ 2-1 win in Mainz.

Köhn came on in the 67th minute for Bremen, who were already playing with a man down, and two minutes later he scored the winning goal.

The player, who was loaned from Galatasaray Istanbul this summer just before the transfer deadline, made the decision – and meant that Werder coach Ole Werner couldn’t resist a little bit of irony. “We basically have a clear instruction that substitutes have to score.” Not everyone sticks to that, but Derrick did it in this case.”

But there were still a few serious words about the goalscorer. “He is a player who we believe will strengthen us,” said Werner.
