Novak Djokovic has clearly stated his priorities

The sporting tasks against Greece are more of a training exercise for Novak Djokovic, as Stefanos Tsitsipas saved himself the trip to Belgrade. Whatever the reason, the Greek number one will be playing in the Laver Cup in Berlin next week. Tsitsipas’s cancellation will probably have had little effect on the outcome of the match between Serbia and the Greeks, which will determine their return to the World Group. At least in the top singles, Nova Djokovic would have been seen as far ahead.

The last time the two met was at the Olympics. Where Novak Djokovic has “completed” his career. This gold medal from Paris was incredibly important to the now 37-year-old. For himself. But also for his home country. The upcoming events on the ATP tour, however, are not quite as important. Like the final tournament in Turin. As things stand, Novak Djokovic would not be qualified for them.

Djokovic plays in Saudi Arabia

“That is not my goal at all.” “Nor are the ATP rankings,” Djokovic also explained yesterday in Belgrade. “I am done with these tournaments.” I don’t know if I will play in Turin this year or next year. From now on, my priorities are the Grand Slam tournaments and Serbia.”

This leaves some room for speculation regarding further tournament planning for the remainder of the 2024 season. Only one thing is certain: Novak Djokovic will play in the “Six Kings” exhibition event in Saudi Arabia in mid-October alongside Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune.
