Donald Trump has released a statement after being evacuated to safety after shots were fired near him.

The former president and Republican candidate wrote: “Gunshots were fired near me, but before the rumor mill gets out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND FINE!

“Nothing will stop me. I will NEVER GIVE UP! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again. May God Bless you.”

The statement came an hour after shots were reportedly fired near the former president, just weeks after a near-assassination attempt, campaign sources say.

Steven Cheung, communications director for the Trump campaign, announced the incident, saying, “President Trump is safe following the shooting near him. No further details at this time.”

The US secret service also publicly confirmed a few minutes after the news became known that Donald Trump was safe.

The shooting occurred near the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

The White House said both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, had been informed and would be kept updated on the status of the investigation.

Kamala Harris posted on X, formerly Twitter: “I have been informed of reports that shots were fired near former President Trump and his Florida estate, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.”

The White House added that it was “relieved” that Mr Trump was safe.

The New York Post and ABC News report that the former president was at the resort when gunfire rang out between two people nearby.

The media cites unnamed law enforcement officials and states that Trump was not the target of the shooting.

The source told NBC that preliminary reports said US intelligence evacuated Mr Trump after gunshots were heard at his golf course.

The official, who remained anonymous, added that no reports of injuries had been received so far and the source of the noise had still not been determined.

The latest gun incident occurred after Trump was shot in the ear by a sniper at a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, on July 13, leaving him inches from death.

Since the assassination attempt, security measures against Mr Trump have been increased.

When he was at Trump Tower in New York, a row of trucks were parked in a wall in front of the building.

And at outdoor rallies, he now speaks behind a shield of bulletproof glass.
