Premiere of the series “Last Lands” on ABC News Live

The 24/7 news channel ABC News Live is partnering with Global Conservation, the only international nonprofit focused on directly protecting endangered national parks and indigenous lands in developing countries, to Last countriesa gripping new series that highlights the global fight to protect our planet’s most threatened ecosystems.

Hosted by award-winning ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff, the series will begin streaming on ABC News Live on September 16. ABC News Live is available on Disney+, Hulu, YouTube, Roku, Amazon, Samsung TV and other platforms.

The series showcases the important work being done by Global Conservation, national governments and local communities to protect the world’s last intact tropical forests and sanctuaries for endangered wildlife.

“This was a month-long, multi-continental and insightful project led by Bob Woodruff,” said Seni Tienabeso, executive director of ABC News Live. “Last Lands represents our commitment to in-depth, investigative reporting on our changing world and taking our streaming audience to these places so they can see for themselves.”

“Last Lands brings the stories of frontline conservationists to a global audience and showcases the vital work needed to protect some of the world’s most endangered national parks and indigenous territories, stretching from the Amazon to the Congo and beyond,” said Jeff Morgan, Executive Director of Global Conservation.

“Protecting our last intact tropical forests in endangered national parks and indigenous territories is critical not only for biodiversity but also for the future survival of humanity.”

LAST LANDS EPISODES

Indonesia: In the Derawan Archipelago of the Coral Triangle, illegal bomb fishing and turtle egg poaching are destroying centuries-old coral reefs and an idyllic tourist destination. This episode documents the fight to protect the area’s pristine marine life as Woodruff teams up with marine police to expose the lawlessness in these waters. (Sept. 16, 8:30 p.m. EDT/9:30 p.m. PDT)

Ecuador: The Amazon rainforest is currently under threat of devastation from illegal gold mining, controlled by powerful cartels and thousands of illegal gold miners. National parks and indigenous territories are being destroyed and rivers are being polluted with cyanide and mercury. Bob Woodruff joins indigenous patrols and government troops fighting to save their indigenous territories and national parks from environmental destruction. (Sept. 23, 8:30 p.m. EDT/9:30 p.m. PDT)

Cambodia: This episode focuses on Cambodia’s rapid deforestation, which has destroyed 30% of the country’s forests in just two decades. Woodruff joins government rangers and international special forces protecting one of the last remaining national parks and fighting illegal logging, clearing and poaching. (Sept. 27, 8:30 p.m. EDT/9:30 p.m. PDT)

Cameroon and Gabon: Woodruff sets out to find Africa’s last remaining forest elephants, over two-thirds of which have been killed in the last 20 years. This episode follows the perilous journey to uncover the networks behind the poaching crisis and the efforts to save these majestic animals in Cameroon and Gabon. (Sept. 30, 8:30 p.m. EDT/9:30 p.m. PDT)
