Irish Premiership: Larne “very happy” with win against Linfield – Matty Lusty

Larne striker Matthew Lusty said his team were “very pleased” with their comfortable 1-0 win over Linfield at Windsor Park.

Substitute Conor McKendry scored the winning goal with a rebound after Chris Johns had blocked Lusty’s initial shot.

It was Larne’s first league win of the season and Lusty was pleased with the determination his team showed to secure an important victory.

“It was a very tough game but a great result and we are very happy,” he told BBC Sport NI.

“We knew we had to win because some results were not in our favor.

“We didn’t play the football we would have liked, especially in the first half, but we got the result.”

Lusty played a key role in the lead-up to the goal, controlling a long clearance, firing inside, outpacing Chris Shields and making his way towards goal before his shot was blocked.

And although he admitted he was frustrated at not scoring, he was relieved that McKendry was there to fire the ball home from close range.

“I think most people stopped and thought the ball was out. I probably should have scored myself, but I’m glad Conor was there and scored the goal.”
