NTR Jr. talks about the challenges of shooting an underwater sequence in ‘Devara: Part 1’

Date

(MENAFN-IANS) Mumbai, September 15 (IANS) Telugu star NTR Jr, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Devara: Part 1’, has shared glimpses of the film and a scene which took 35 days to shoot.

He spoke to filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga about the challenges he faced while shooting underwater.

He described the 35-day shoot as the toughest of his career, citing in particular the intricate details of a scene involving a shark.

He said, “There’s this crazy interaction between the protagonist and the shark.” He shared that underwater shots required extreme precision as the actors couldn’t stay underwater for long. “If it’s a six-second shot, they have to rehearse it thoroughly and get an exact six-second shot.”

The depth of the pool added complexity, with some scenes taking place at 18 feet (5.5 meters) deep. “It’s not just about swimming inside, it’s about fighting and killing,” he added.

Interestingly, water and fire were the themes of his blockbuster film ‘RRR’, with the theme of water symbolizing his character of freedom fighter Komaram Bheem.

He said, “That was my first underwater sequence ever,” he recalled, noting that this latest challenge in “Devara” pushed him further. One of the hardest parts was working without goggles, which made it difficult to see clearly. “I didn’t know where the camera was, I just knew it was there somewhere, but I couldn’t really see it.”

Despite all the challenges, NTR is proud of the team’s achievement and describes it as a complex but rewarding experience.

Produced by Yuvasudha Arts and NTR Arts, the film also stars Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor. Directed by Koratala Siva, Devara: Part 1 is slated to hit theaters on September 27, 2024.
