Davis Cup: Defending champion Italy reaches final tournament

Defending champion Italy has secured its place in the final tournament in Malaga in the Davis Cup. The host team advanced from the preliminary round of the tennis team competition in Bologna because Brazil beat Belgium (2:1) on Saturday. Italy (2:0 wins) will meet the Netherlands (1:1) in Group A on Sunday.

Like the German team, which came second behind the USA in Group C in Zhuhai/China, Argentina has also progressed. The South Americans beat Finland 3-0 in Manchester. Before that, Spain and Australia had qualified for the quarter-finals alongside the USA and Germany.

Two places are still open, Great Britain (1:1) must beat Canada (2:0) 3:0 on Sunday to be able to advance in Group D. Brazil, Belgium (both 1:2) and the Netherlands also still have a chance.

The final tournament of the best eight nations will take place from November 19 to 24. In the quarterfinals, which will be drawn on Thursday, Germany will face a winner from the other three preliminary groups.
